2007-2008 Competition Plan

Fall 2007

Teams that submitted a Notice of Intent (due September 14, 2007) will receive $1000 upon receipt and acceptable evaluation of the conceptual design report.

Conceptual design report of the whole satellite, subsystem (s), or payload is due Dec. 3, 2007.

Updated evaluation criteria for the Conceptual Design: Due 12/03/07

1.      Scientific and Technical Merit: 70%

·        The mission and/or satellite design should be scientifically and technically sound. It is very important that the winning design team shows a high level of creativity and innovation.

2.      Design Maturity & Feasibility: 20%

·        The conceptual design must justify support for a detailed design in spring 2008. This requirement will be subjective so every effort must be made to explain fully all design areas.

·        Feasibility, coverage, and completeness of the design would be demonstrated by technical analysis and simulation, trade study, and identification of all major parts/components.

·        Existing subsystem designs and COTS can be utilized while it may affect the evaluation on Item 1.

3.      Soundness of the development plan: 10 %

·        It is essential to submit a good plan for the detailed design of your satellite

1)     Budget

2)     Major developments & schedule

3)     Team Charts: organization diagram that shows the development team (students & their disciplines), mentor, and other supports
